THERE'S A STAR TREK PROP AND COSTUME EXHIBIT IN THE MIDDLE OF OHIO?? DARN RIGHT - AND IT HAS HAS SOME AMAZING PIECES!

The quiet little burg of Lancaster, Ohio is probably the last place you would expect to find a Paramount-supported "Star Trek" exhibition complete with original production-made "Star Trek" pieces from the sixties as well as Wrath of Khan and later Trek incarnations. Yet that's exactly where you'll find the "Star Trek & Worlds Beyond" exhibition. Don't let the stately Federal-style facade of the Decorative Arts Center of Ohio fool you - there's more going on inside than history. For now, it's full of the future, "Star Trek" style.

"Star Trek" costumes and props from the Paramount Pictures archive and the Trumbull County Historical Society are the focus of the exhibition, curated by Lancaster native Randall Thropp, who began his career at Paramount Pictures in 2003. He is now in charge of Paramount's costume and jewelry archive and has brought the world of Star Trek to his home town. Literally!

"We think there's something for everyone," said Jason Crabill, the executive director of the Decorative Arts Center of Ohio who has worked with Thropp on previous collaborations. I think he's absolutely correct. ANY fan of "Star Trek" will find something cool and interesting.

The exhibit is heavy with pieces from the last three movies for a very basic reason - that's simply the stuff of which they have the most despite all the major Trek productions over the years. That's because even though "Star Trek" has been around since 1966 and has had large a number of subsequent shows, Paramount actually sold off most of its Trek stuff back in 2006 through Christie's and other auctions. So while they still have some key pieces in their archive, the lion's share was sold off.

But fear not, there are definitely some amazing classic pieces on display some of which go all the way back to classic Trek circa the 1960's.

Check out this video for a great overview of the exhibit.

I'll be sharing more about my own experience at the exhibit in coming days. But I want to urge all trek fans who want an awesome daytrip to get over to the Decorative Arts Center of Ohio in Lancaster Ohio before the end of the month or you'll miss out on a fantastic experience. As with all their exhibits, attendance is free to the public.

More to come!
